To some degree, but really your probably getting enough Vitamin B in your diet unless your ill or abusing alcohol or on some severe diet.
If you take too much Vitamin B it’s water-soluble so you will pass it in your urine and you will notice you urine will be very orange.
Because they are water-soluble you body cannot store them, so we need to take B daily.
There are really no known negative effects from taking a lot of Vitamin B.
However there was a study that showed a high dose of Vitamin B6 may contribute to hip fractures in older people.
This is why they say you need to take a balanced B vitamin because you will deplete one or more of the other B’s by just taking one or two B’s.
There are eight known vitamin B’s, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12.
These B vitamins help to maintain healthy skin, muscle tone, immune and nervous system and help promote cell division and growth.
Most people can get the necessary B vitamins by eating meat, eggs, dairy products and whole grains. So unless you are allergic or cannot eat these food groups you can take a B complex vitamin which should contain all the known B’s.
The average person 19 years and older recommended daily dose is anywhere from 6 micro grams (mcg) to 14 milligrams (mg) a day.
Natural Vitamins for Energy
Here is a list of all the known B’s names that you may be more familiar with and what they do for you body and what foods you can get them from.
RDA – Required Daily Allowance
Vitamin B1 or Thiamine approx. RDA – 1.4 mg
Helps convert carbohydrates and fat into energy and is needed for normal growth and development. It also helps the functioning of the heart, nervous and digestive systems.
Some food sources, Spinach, liver, beef, peas, beans, soybeans, nuts,
bananas, whole grains and enriched breads and cereals.
Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin approx. RDA-1.2 mg
Helps metabolize fats, proteins and carbohydrates and cell processing.
Also, good for your eye sight because of the anti-oxidants.
Needed for cell energy metabolism and DNA repair. Helps remove toxins and chemicals from your body. Also, produces stress and sex related hormones that are produced by the adrenal glands. Also, good for you eye site because of the anti-oxidants. Also, known to promote good cholesterol and lower inflammation for people who suffer from arthritis or inflammation of the eyes, fry eyes or even red eyes.
Very important and life sustaining and for the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
Some food sources:
Eggs, whole grain cereals, beans, meat and some energy drinks.
Vitamin B6 or Pyridoxine and Pyridoxamine RDA-1.3 mg
Good for general health as it helps enzymes metabolize food and your immune system to work properly
Some food sources:
Chicken, fish, liver, nuts, green beans, green salads, nutritional yeast, wheat germ, bananas and sea vegetables.
Vitamin B7 or Biotin or Vitamin K RDA-30 mcg
Good for maintaining a steady blood sugar level also good for your skin and hair. Good for cell growth and fatty acid production and the transfer of carbon dioxide. Also, helps to release energy from food which known as the Krebs Cycle.
Also, if taken before and during a woman’s pregnancy it can help prevent major birth defects of a baby’s brain and spine
Some food sources:
Liver, spinach, leafy greens, asparagus, broccoli, oranges, dried beans and peas, sunflower seeds and enriched cereal.
Vitamin B12 or Cobalamin RDA-6mcg
Needed for the production of red blood cells and also the maintenance of the nervous system and growing and developing children
Some food sources:
Dairy products, eggs, and meat, nutritional yeast and enriched cereals.
So, there is a list of why Vitamin B is very important and why we need to make sure we get enough every day. With so many processed foods today make sure you buy natural or organically grown food whenever possible.
After all the Queen of England, also eats organic food and Prince Charles promotes organically grown food.
Vitamin B is water-soluble so we need it every day and as you can see from the list above we don’t need that much. However if you drink alcohol, and eat a lot of sugary foods everyday you are destroying Vitamin B.
I always take a supplement, like B50, meaning most of all the known B vitamins are at 50 mg, except for B9 or folic acid it is at 400 mcg. As I said before if you have more than enough B vitamin the excess will come out in your urine, but it’s better to have more than not enough as there are really no bad side effects for taking a little more.
B Vitamins for Hair Loss
B7 or Biotin has been known to be good for your hair and skin and can be found in many hair products and shampoos.
Also good for your hair is vitamin A which helps your skin glands produce the oily substance called Sebum. Too little A and too much A can cause hair loss and can also cause severe problems so make sure you take the right amount.
Vitamin C is also another good hair vitamin because it creates a protein called collagen which is important part of you hair structure. It also helps your body absorb iron, a necessary mineral for hair growth.
It’s also is a very good ant-oxidant against free radicals that can stress you hair and stop growth.
Vitamin D may help create new hair follicles, but D for hair growth is still unknown.
Also, vitamin E similar to Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant and one study people taking E experienced almost a 35% increase in hair growth, the placebo group had only a 0.1% increase in hair growth.
Personally, I have been taking E8 400 to 800 IU daily for about 5 years now and I have never noticed any extreme hair growth.
Also iron is good for your hair because it helps red blood cells carry oxygen to you cells.
Zinc is also good for your hair because it helps the oil glands around the hair follicles to work properly, but make sure you don’t take too much or you will have hair loss.
Protein, because hair is mostly made up of protein is very important for hair growth.
Studies on animals have shown a lack of protein in animals caused hair loss, but most people in western society get enough protein in their diet, but I think some of that protein like greasy, meaty foods like deep fried chicken etc. might not be the best protein in my opinion.
Also, remember to wash your hair at least 3 or 4 times a week with a natural shampoo and conditioner.
Also brushing your hair with a natural bristle brush when it’s dry is good for hair scalp blood circulation and 50 to 100 times once a day lightly brushing you hair will apparently strengthen your hair and spread your hair sebum and give you shiny hair.
Birds will preen themselves by taking the oil from the base of their tail and run it all over their feathers making them shiny and water resistant.
So in Closing Remember to Take Vitamin B
B is very important and you don’t need much, but it can be destroyed.
Alcohol destroys B which creates a coating on our nerves called a myelin sheath. It is made up of 80% fats and cholesterol and about 20% proteins.
If the myelin sheath is not there or is destroyed your nerves have no insulation and when they touch each other they cause a twitch. If you have ever seen an alcoholic, you will see how they twitch, they have destroyed their myelin sheath in parts of their nerves and now they twitch more. Vitamin B may help them to recoat their myelin sheath.
The body has the ability to recover sometimes. This is why when babies are born their movements are jerky, uncoordinated, because their myelin sheath is not fully developed.
Also, if you have Multiple Scelerosis or MS it destroys you myelin sheath and you slowly lose control of you body movements.
So, take care or your body, try to eat a balanced meal that is right for you body everyone is a little different. Some people can get violently ill if they eat the wrong food, some people just a little indigestion.
Lose Weight Naturally
In my first post, I mentioned getting tested with a Vega machine by a naturopath, this machine will tell you what foods you digest better. If you do this you will lose weight naturally without dieting without pills or exercising.
I know because I have tried it and it worked for me. I went from 195 pounds to 175 pounds in 2 weeks and I was not dieting or exercising I was actually eating a lot, but the right foods for me.
Take care of yourself get yourself tested and you will live a long and healthy life and make sure you are getting enough Vitamin B!

This is a great and simple to follow guide on how vitamin B gives energy.
You laid it all out clearly and showed series of examples that helped emphasize your various points. This guide will be very useful for me. This is the most comprehensive review I have ever read about Vitamin B because I am only familiar with Vitamin A and C. I have always thought carbohydrates are the only source of energy.
My question:
I have always wanted to go on diet; Can vitamin B help me to loose weight?
With regards to losing weight with vitamin B, our digestive system rely’s on many nutritional factor’s vitamin B is one of the main one’s.
Brown rice not white rice is full of Vitamin B that’s the slippery stuff on the bottom of the rice pot that coats your intestines, providing you are not allergic to this food or do not digest it well it will help keep you regular and if you are not over eating you should maintain a regular weight and also with a little exercise.
A brisk walk and isometric exercises are good for you as opposed to running marathon’s which one doctor I heard said causes as much as 5% permanent damage to your bones.
The human body is amazing, it can heal itself from sickness, cuts and bruises, etc. We have been given this incredible body with the mentally that basically has no idea how it works ! It’s like giving a young person an expensive racing car they are probably going to destroy it.
The Vega machine will tell you which foods you digest best and you will lose weight naturally as long as you don’t over eat.
Personally I take Chlorella which is a fresh water algae that is full of vitamins and is a super food ! I wrote a post on it and highly recommend taking it everyday ! I take 8 to 10 grams of chlorella a day and so does my wife and we both find it helps with inflammation !
I have had little to no pain in my lower back and my arthritis since taking this dosage of chlorella and studies have shown this, 10 grams a day reduces inflammation in a double blind study.
Thank you for your comments ! All the best to your health !
Great reminder about the benefits of the Vitamins Bs. I always forget the importance of Biotin specifically for healthy hair. What are some good foods to get Biotin from? Do you think it’s better to try to get Vit B from foods or supplements? Sometimes it’s hard to make sure I get enough of my nutrients just through food, so I like to keep supplements also. I am going to refer to this article though to try to pick out some foods to try to incorporate in my daily diet more. Thanks!
Actually you can try chlorella whichiife i have written about in one of my posts, i take it daily, its a fresh water algae that is full of vitamins including B my wife and i both take it and i have little to no pain in my lower back (which has bothered me for years)when taking chlorella ! It’s an anti inflammatory and i can’t say enough about it . It’s all natural . I take 5 to 10 grams a day .(10 to 20, 500 mg tablets )That might seem like a lot but a double blind test was done and found that people with fibromuralga had greatly reduced their pain and i am living proof for myself its been amazing and its a natural B etc . Thank you for your comment 🙂
Can a vegetarian with a high level of alcohol intake be exposed to a high level of loss vitamin B ? How can hip fracture be prevented in elderly who are veggie? Will a combination of high vitamin B intake as well as alcohol abuse be seen a destructive to the body system?.how can vitamin B intake increase energy reserve for an alcoholic vegetarian?
Wow lot’s of questions alcohol destroys vitamin b and b is a water base vitamin so we need some everyday but if you drink alcohol or sugary foods etc that will destroy b . Alcohol is also bad for your liver and without your liver you go to heaven ha ha., ut actually hardens the liver and turns it into a rubbery white yuk.
If you are vegetarian carrots or carrot juice is good for fractures. Taking alcohol and b will he a win lose b is helping alcohol is hurting your body . If you take too much b like 100 mg of al the known b’s your body will get rid of the excess through the urine and it will be bright orange.
Chlorella is also full of b and lots of vitamins and minerals and is all natural from fresh water algae, i take it everyday. Thank you for your comments anything else please let me know 🙂
Hi,I remembered the first time I passed out golden colored urine after taking vitamin B supplements. I was very alarmed and discontinued the medication. I never knew it was a normal way for the body to pass out excess vitamin B. Due to the nature of my work, I take a lot of Vitamin B complex supplement in order to maintain my health. It is interesting to also read that Biotin is good for hair loss. I run the risk of a receding hairline, so I would definitely need to improve my intake of B7. Any idea of natural food sources that contain lots of B7? I still need to improve on my diet and lifestyle though. What’s your opinion on taking single vitamin supplements vs taking multivitamin supplements? Which would be more effective?
I would highly recommend chlorella ! I have a post on it in my site its full of b ,e ,c etc plus minerals it comes from a fresh water algae and is all natural.
My wife and i take it everyday and i gave little to no pain in my lower back when i take 5 to 10 grams a day 10 to 20 tablets .
Chlorella is an anti-inflammatory and quite a complete vitamin food source.
I buy 360 tablets for about $40.00 Canadian and there are quite a few brands out there as long ad its from a reliable source.
If you just took chlorella and nothing else you would be ok it’s a super food food I’am so glad I found out about it several years ago it’s changed my life !
Nice article there on how important is vitamin b to our body as a human being
for sometimes now I have been taking supplements 3 times per week in other not to get addicted to it and also I do some exercise once a week. Please should I stop thinking the supplement and try and take more of vitamins because I don’t see much of improvement in regards to weight loss in my body

This is a well compiled list of vitamins B for long life. You did a great job in putting all these together and bringing them to our knowledge. I always want to maintain a good healthy living so I eat food that is beneficial to my body. I eat food that has more Vitamin B6 or Pyridoxine and Pyridoxamine RDA-1.3 mg consisting of liver, beans, green salad, green beans and also fruits. I have bookmarked this site for easy access your site for latest updates.
Thank you for your comment ! You can also try chlorella itself an amazing natural super food from fresh water algae . I have a post on it . My wife and I take it everyday. This is really an eye-opener. I never knew Vitamin B is helpful like the way your post just showed it. I would have loved to share your post on social media but noticed you have none shareable link on it. I have picked some things, which I would definitely share with others. Sugar and especially alcohol destroy VIT B, and according to you, it creates a coating on the nerves known as myelin sheath, which causes a twitch. I want to ask if an adult stops smoking, would this restore the Myelin Sheath?
hearing of the naturopath machine for the first time, this would be a good option for weight loss instead of taking pills. However, this should stop no one from exercising.
Vitamin B is destroyed by sugar and alcohol and smoking destroys B 12 leading to increase cardiovascular disease risk along with lowering vitamin C and D levels in your body and also increases your chance of a stroke if you smoke by 50 % according to some studies.
However nicotine does seem to reduce inflammation.some studies have shown that nicotine actually helps with Parkinson’s , Alzheimer’s , Crohn’s and Multiple Sclerosis diseases and delays myelin sheath destruction, but there is a lot of controversy of course in this subject.
I would suggest not to smoke.
With regards to the Vega machine used by some Naturopath’s, a brisk walk is a good exercise or light weights as it does not wear out your bones like marathon running. So, yes keep exercising, the Vega machine gives you an idea of which foods you digest the best so your body is running at it’s optimum.

Hi! I have been researching about the benefits of vitamin B and the foods we can get them from. I love dairy products and I have them daily. So I’m glad to discover dairy products are a source of quite a few of the known B’s.
As I have been researching I asked myself the question: why don’t we mention vitamins B4, B8, B10 or B11? And I discovered that some substances that once were thought to be vitamins were given numbers in the B-vitamin numbering scheme. But to consider a substance a vitamin, there are two essential qualifiers. And after further investigation, it was determined that these substances did not meet these two essential qualifiers. These are: they were not essential for life or manufactured by the body. And thus, we don’t talk of B4, B8, B10 or B11 anymore. But I don’t know if I have arrived at the correct conclusion concerning these B’s we never mention. If you could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Well, according to herbsmed.net found on http://www.wonderlabs.com B4 is manufactured in our body and is an important component of both dna and rna. you can look it up.
It never fails to amaze me I learn something new every once in a while about vitamins !
It also talks about the other vitamins you mentioned. This is why the most important thing is to get a balanced B.
That is why I prefer to take chlorella which is full of vitamins B,C, E etc.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention , I have been taking some of these in the past but now look at them in a new light !
Thank You for your comments ! All the best to your health !
Thanks for this informative post, indeed this post has made me realize the importance of vitamin B in our diet as is a nutrient you need for good health. It’s one of eight B vitamins that help the body convert the food you eat into glucose, which gives you energy. Vitamin B-12 has a number of additional functions. But I want to know if excess vitamin B has side effects?
We don’t really need that much B . If you notice in my blog it is measured in milligrams (mg), which is not a lot.The important thing is to get a balanced B. I prefer to take chlorella which is a fresh water algae and full of natural vitamins B,C,A, etc.
There was a study done on B6 which said that too much B6 could cause hip fractures in elderly people.
I have read your whole article with all necessary information and guideline about Vitamin B. Really this is an awesome article.I am agree with you that vitamin B is an energy source of our body.To live a happy life with a healthy body and mind vitamin is very important. It’s gives us energy for leading a disease free life.By reading your article I have learned the requirements of vitamin B. And I have also learned the sources of vitamin B.You have any idea how much vitamin B should be taken or how much body is required for each day?I will share this great article with my friends and relatives.Thank you for sharing this.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We don’t need to take that much B vitamin daily if you read my post you will notice a lot are only milligrams (mg). Most important is a mixed B in the right amounts.
We need a mixed B and some natural foods have a way of giving that to us, that is why I have been taking chlorella lately.
I have a post on chlorella and I highly recommend it, it is full of B,C,A, etc.it comes from a fresh water algae and is also a anti-inflammatory good for pain . I take 8 to 10 grams a day and find it really helps with my arthritis and back pain.
So, you can take a multi B pill daily or chlorella tablets daily your choice !
Vitamin B is the best in given out energy. Vitamin B serves as energy giver and it must be taken on a daily basis ,vitamin B helps in healthy skin, muscle tone ,immunue and alsobhelps in promiting the cell and growth.vitamin B metabolize fat and protei.dairy product, fish, meat, egg and okra are the source of vitamin B. This article said it all.
I would love to share this page with friends .best regards
I have been taking vitamins since I was 19 years old, so I have tried a lot of vitamins in pill and natural form.
I always recommend people eat food as natural and organic as possible and you will be surprised at how good your body will react to the right food ! Vitamin B is in a lot of foods and does seem to give me a boost in energy specially when taken in the powder form of brewers yeast which is full of vitamin B.
We don’t really need that much vitamin B but if you are short in one or two over a period of time it can have a negative affect on your body.
However lately I prefer to take chlorella which I have a post about on my website or you can also google it.
Chlorella is a fresh water algae and comes in powder or tablet form, I prefer the tablets and take 8 to 10 grams a day 4 or 5 grams in the morning and again at dinner !/2 hour before a meal. Chlorella is full of Vitamins , B,C, A,, etc, and is also a anti-inflammatory , good for aches and pains and arthritis etc., it’s a super food.
Hi John – thank you for your articles on vitamins for a longer life. I have found them interesting and informative. I am especially happy when you advise people to eat much less processed food, increasing their intake of whole plant based foods. Some of the longest living people on earth have a diet that includes plenty of leafy greens, fresh fruits, lentils, beans, some fish, tofu, grains such as quinoia, farro, barlay, millet (to name just a few) seeds and nuts. These people eat meat only on special occasions and even then, it is used as a flavor enhancer only. It is slso beneficial to include a fermented vegetable daily such as kim chi or saurerkraut. My husband and I take vitamin d, chlorella, serrapeptase, but I will add vitamins b and e. Again thank you for your comprehensive articles on health and I look forward to reading many more.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Thank You all the best to your health

I’am sorry for the delay in getting back to you !
Try it you will notice a real energy boost also !
Thank you ! all the best to your health!
Thank you for stopping by to read my posts I hope they have helped !
